CuO/TiO2 Metal Oxide Nanocomposite Synthesis via Room Temperature Ionic Liquid

Metal oxides of CuO/TiO2 nanocomposite were successfully synthesized by facile microwave-assisted method using room temperature ionic liquid (RTIL). RTILs have extremely low volatility, wide liquid temperature range and readily dissolve many organic, inorganic and organometallic compounds. Microwave-assisted method is performed under atmospheric pressure and the size of the particles can be easily controlled. The as synthesized nanocomposites were characterized by x-ray diffraction (XRD), particle size analyzer (PSA), transmission electron microscope (TEM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and thermo gravimetric-differential thermal analysis (TG-DTA). The structural properties and stability of the nanocomposites were shown using supportive results from XRD, PSA and TEM. FTIR spectra displayed various bands that confirm formation of CuO/TiO2 nanocomposite. The weight loss of the nanocomposites was observed by TG/DTA. The CuO/TiO2 nanocomposite formed were tube like structures; which can be attributed to the room temperature ionic liquid present in the reaction.
