NPCR- Restriction Fragment Length Polymorphism Analysis (PRA) of the hsp-65 (Heat shock protein) gene using Hae-III enzyme was applied to 11 indian mycobacterial isolates of representing biochemically identified species comprising of M. kansasii, M. marium, M. avium, M. fortuitum, M. chelonae and M. smegmatis, to evaluate its potential as a rapid identification method. Isolates belonging to all the 6 species showed specific distinct patterns. This method, thus, appears to be relatively simpler and rapid method for mycobacteria.
