Sarita Mehta and Radha Sahu

The distribution of algal vegetation in relation to seasonal variation of Rarhu River at Rahe block of Ranchi district, was first time investigated between March 2009 to February 2010 by the authors by exploration and documentation. A regular seasonal collection in about 5km area has been made during several field trips between this period. A total 87 taxa belonging to three different classes viz. Cyanophyceae (25), Chlorophyceae (43) and Basccilariophyceae (19) were identified. All taxa have been allotted to their conventional orders. Important genera recorded from river flowing through this area are Oscillatoria, Lyngbya, Nostoc, Nostochopsis, Chlorella, Scenedesmus, Cladophora etc. It was observed that the algal vegetation was recorded maximum during summer and minimum during rainy season.
